The hype around shipping containers usually has to do with so-called “tiny homes.” If we’re all being honest though, tiny homes are barely the beginning.
1. Growing delicious food… even in Antarctica
Well, maybe not quite Antarctica, but we probably could do that too. Take a look at the way one town in Alaska is using shipping containers to provide a constant food source in an environment that can be less than friendly to gardens!
Take a look here to see how Google is using shipping containers to ensure that hundreds of employees are fed while on the job! The role that shipping containers can play in agricultural efforts just makes us that much more proud.
2. Providing quality, cost-effective low-income housing
Low-income housing projects are a hot topic right now, with rents across the nation soaring to unbelievable levels. Is this the answer to the homeless problem? Is it the solution to severely overpriced rent? Some would say yes.
Check out this new housing complex, Potter’s Lane, that the American Family Housing Foundation built in Orange County. It will provide homeless vets with a place to live and resources to help them build a life–we’d say that makes shipping containers an invaluable material for building.
3. Giving you a place to eat
Honestly, we can’t think of a better way to enjoy Taco Bell. Or, if you’re more of a foodie perhaps–Long Beach’s own Tajima Ramen and Smog City Brewery, just to name a couple.
Read here about the new way to eat your Doritos Locos tacos that popped up in Austin, Texas–and again this year in Orange County, this time permanently!
Learn about Long Beach’s upcoming SteelCraft food court and beer garden here–everything is housed in shipping containers.
Still not convinced? Take a look at Las Vegas’s beautiful and functional Container Park.
4. Making your events turn heads and operate smoothly
When you find yourself in new surroundings, what’s the first way you survey them? You look around.
In looking around, things are bound to catch your eye–that’s where shipping containers come in.
Check out the many different event containers we’ve masterminded here. Some of our clients have included Nike, Hurley, Golfwang, Uber, and Society 6 just to mention a few!
5. Providing a place to teach and learn
Due to their versatility and durability, shipping containers make an excellent option for classrooms.
Consider this–there are people living in remote parts of the world, who don’t really have easy access to the building materials you typically imagine when you think of school.
Shipping containers are PERFECT for this. They’re inexpensive, they’re sturdy, and they’re easy to move.

6. Swimming. Yes, in a pool.
Okay, so we know we said “tiny houses” were just the tip of the iceberg–and they are! That doesn’t mean, however, that we can’t still admire good housing jobs.
Speaking of good housing jobs, one of the coolest things is the shipping container swimming pool. That’s right, a pool. It only makes sense, doesn’t it?
There are some pretty cool ones out there!
7. Only the coolest wakeboarding course. Ever.
We saved one the best things for last. Just judging from the photos, you wouldn’t think that this setup could be as impressive as it totally is…
But don’t take our word for it. Watch the video right here! You won’t regret it.
